Kuki Students Seal NHIDCL Office Over Dangerous Road Hazards

Imphal: The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) in Churachandpur shut the local NHIDCL office on Thursday. They locked the doors on the Deputy General Manager after a three-day ultimatum passed. The project stalls involve unfinished culverts and drainage systems at Hmar Veng and Tuibong. These infrastructure failures keep flooding the area during monsoon rains.

Students demanded a hard deadline for the construction. They noted that a previous meeting with the DGM months ago produced zero results. The state of Tiddim Road remains a major hazard. Heavy rain turns the road into a death trap. Debris clogs the path, forcing motorists and pedestrians into dangerous conditions.

The risk is real. In 2026, two youths on a bike plummeted into an open drain near the KSO Complex during a night downpour. Bystanders pulled them out before they vanished. A cyclist narrowly escaped a similar fate during the day. The student group is fed up with the administrative silence. They asked a pointed question: "Are authorities waiting for a major tragedy to occur before taking corrective measures?"

KSO leaders warned of more escalations. They promised further action without warning if the agency refuses to fix the mess. The road remains broken.
