KSU Demands Review of Veterinary Admission Merit List

Shillong: The Khasi Students’ Union is pushing for an immediate overhaul of the B.V.Sc. and A.H. admission list for the 2026-27 session. KSU Education Secretary Alerick Kharjana sent a letter to the Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary this Wednesday. He highlighted major flaws in how the state categorizes NEET UG 2026 test scores.

The math does not add up. General Category applicants ranked 5th through 12th hold scores between 355 and 440. Meanwhile, the top 12 Khasi-Jaintia candidates sit between 443 and 481. The top tribal student pulled a 481, beating the second-ranked General Category applicant who scored 464. The second and third-ranked Khasi-Jaintia students scored 472 and 471.

KSU argues these high-scoring students belong in the General Category. Moving them there would free up reserved spots for other eligible tribal candidates. The union claims current practices unfairly gatekeep reserved seats while letting lower-scoring applicants walk into the General pool. “This consequently deprives other deserving Khasi-Jaintia candidates of an opportunity to secure admission under the category intended for them,” Kharjana stated.

The union demands a full review before the Directorate finalizes the class. They want the department to follow standard operating procedures to keep the process merit-based and fair for everyone involved.
