Shillong: The Meghalaya government voided all Round-I MBBS college allotments for the 2026-27 academic year on Tuesday. Officials acted after receiving mounting grievances regarding the new Standard Operating Procedure for admissions. Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Joram Beda signed the order demanding a fresh, uniform, and transparent selection process.
The Directorate of Health Services will hold the new counselling session on September 16 and 17 at 11 am. It takes place at the office of the Director of Health Services in Laitumkhrah. The list includes 150 candidates. NEET scores range from 575 to 315. Candidates must bring one guardian. Admissions are tight. The pressure is on.
Authorities must now use the 2025-26 SOP, as amended on October 6, 2025, to govern the new round. The government will publish a verified seat matrix by institution and category before the session begins. Officials promised that no student will lose their NEET rank or eligibility due to the cancellation. The order explicitly states, “No candidate shall suffer any penalty or adverse consequence merely for having acted in good faith upon the earlier allotment before issuance of this order.”
The Jaintia Students’ Union hailed the decision as a major victory. Education secretary Bocheru MI Pohsnem plans to watch the process closely to ensure fairness. Stakeholders previously complained that officials applied merit and reservation rules inconsistently. The government now has 48 hours to fix the mess.
