Shillong: Meghalaya just dropped its Standard Operating Procedure for the 2026-27 MBBS intake. The Meghalaya State Counselling Authority for Medical Education will manage the process. Officials aim for a single merit list using NEET-UG 2026 All India Ranks. The plan covers 138 total seats.
Ninety-six spots fall under the Central Pool and other specific quotas. This includes 53 Central Pool seats, 14 at NEIGRIHMS, 16 at RIMS Imphal, 10 in Assam, and three in Tripura. Shillong Medical College holds the remaining 42 state seats. The National Medical Commission granted 50 total spots to that facility, with eight reserved for the All-India Quota.
Shillong Medical College follows a rigid reservation policy. It splits 40 percent each for Khasi and Jaintia and Garo categories. The remaining segments include 15 percent unreserved and five percent for SC/OST applicants. To get in, students must hit 17 years of age by December 31, 2026. They need a Class XII background in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English.
Registration happens online with document verification for residency and qualifications. The process spans four rounds, ending with a Stray Vacancy Round. Students taking state-sponsored seats sign a formal bond. They must serve at least five years in government or mission hospitals. The authority warned students to watch out for scams. They said, "The department has advised candidates to rely only on official communications from MSCAMA and the Health and Family Welfare Department during the counselling process."
MSCAMA is setting up a control room. They will monitor social media for fake notices and fraud. Stick to the official portal for all updates.
