Imphal: Residents from Pukhao and Khamenlok are demanding action against a microfinance scheme that allegedly stiffed 212 members out of 1.25 crore. Heikrujam Malemnganbi of Wakhong brought the grievances to the Manipur Press Club at Koubru Hall today. She claims the operation, known as Yawol Ehou Marup, has left hundreds of families in the lurch.
The scheme kicked off in January 2018. Members made monthly payments hoping for big payouts. Malemnganbi stated that while some members deposited up to 1 lakh, they were promised returns as high as 5 lakh. Out of 505 total participants, 212 still haven't seen a dime of their money. Payments sputtered over the years but hit a wall in January 2026. Members are now desperate.
Malemnganbi pointed the finger at Khwairakpam Brojen of Ngangkha Lawai. He reportedly told victims that they would only get partial payments and the rest of the cash would disappear. Sangoijao, the former manager of the Loyalam Sagolmang branch, allegedly played a part in the scheme as well. Both men linked the arrangement to Loyalam to keep members paying in. Malemnganbi insists that they used the organization's name to collect funds and provide loans. She told the press, "She urged the authorities to investigate the alleged financial irregularities, establish the circumstances surrounding the unpaid deposits and take steps to recover the outstanding amount for the 212 affected members."
