Kohima: Kohima Police busted two NSCN/GPRN-K (Michael) cadres for running an extortion racket on National Highway-29. Officers picked up the pair Saturday near the New SKV Petrol Pump in Merhülietsa Colony.
Police acted on intelligence received at 11:40 a.m. claiming unidentified men were shaking down truck drivers. A team hit the scene to conduct discreet surveillance. They moved in once they confirmed the illegal activity.
The suspects are Beilie Rupreo, 37, a self-styled Lieutenant from Chiechama Village now living in Sovima Village, Chümoukedima, and 39-year-old Kevingulie Metha, a self-styled Corporal from Nachama Village currently residing at High School Colony, Kohima. A search yielded several extortion slips marked with the "Government of the People's Republic of Nagaland (Finance Committee)."
The South Police Station booked the pair. Detectives are now sweating the suspects to map out financiers, additional operatives, and potential rackets operating in other districts. Kohima Police wants business owners and drivers to report demands immediately. They promise that the identity of informants and complainants will be kept strictly confidential.
