Kohima: Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem chaired a District Task Force meeting in Kohima on June 24 to overhaul local health and sanitation protocols. The session prioritized biomedical waste disposal, fire safety, and disaster readiness across district facilities. Authorities demanded a sustainable waste strategy immediately.
Accountability is rising. The Supreme Court mandated stricter oversight for medical waste, and officials confirmed the solid waste management site at Lerie will restart soon. Meanwhile, health staff flagged critical failures in water supply, power backups, and fire safety equipment at Naga Hospital.
The task force also scrutinized maternal and infant health. They called for more life-saving medicines and better institutional delivery rates. Addressing the group, the Deputy Commissioner said, "Kohima must lead by example in implementing government programmes and public health initiatives."
Kohima will host an Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization programme on June 28. It runs from 7 AM until 3 PM. All local departments must support this effort. The meeting concluded with a pledge to mobilize resources to fix the identified infrastructure gaps.
