Kohima: Akehda Amulung Kiphire organized an awareness session and plantation drive at PM SHRI Government High School in Yangphi on May 25. The event centered on the theme Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life, focusing on the dangers of substance abuse and tobacco consumption.
Kedorianuo Sirie, a psychologist from the District Mental Health Programme, led the main session. She warned students that addiction to tobacco, alcohol, and drugs often stems from peer pressure and social influence. She pointed out that Nagaland currently faces high rates of tobacco use, which is fueled by easy access and social factors. To counter these risks, she urged students to prioritize sports, faith, and supportive friendships as they make life decisions.
The program included contributions from local leaders and the Evangelical Graduate Fellowship. Following the educational session, participants engaged in a tree planting drive. Longtili C. Sangtam, the founder of Akehda Amulung, thanked the Forest Department for the saplings and described the new trees as symbols representing the youth of the region. Members of the 30 Assam Rifles also joined the event, reinforcing the value of community collaboration.
Organizers closed the program by promoting the National Toll Free De addiction Helpline at 14446, offering resources to anyone seeking support.
