Kohima: The District Congress Committee in Kiphire turned up the heat on the Naga People's Front on July 23. They slammed the party for defending the crumbling road network in the 60 Pungro-Kiphire Assembly Constituency. Congress leaders want the state government to start rebuilding these roads immediately.
The NPF previously dismissed public complaints about the infrastructure. They claimed critics simply did not understand the ground realities. The Congress committee pushed back hard against this narrative. They argued that Pungro residents have suffered for years while waiting for broken promises to turn into actual pavement.
The ruling party blames a land acquisition survey for the stalled progress. Congress officials demanded full transparency on that survey. They want to know the budget, the completion dates, and exactly when crews will finally break ground. Bureaucracy cannot hide the rot. Administrative hurdles should not serve as a shield for these long delays.
The NPF admitted that local groups carried out minor fixes to keep traffic moving. The Yimkhiung Youth Organisation, Likimro Enterprise, and the Border Roads Organisation handled these repairs. Congress praised the work but insisted the government must step up. Maintaining public infrastructure is a state duty, not a community job.
The party also rejected calls for citizens to stay quiet. They maintained that speaking out is a constitutional right. Government officials need to focus on results instead of attacking their own residents. Accountability demands action. The DCC is siding with the people of Pungro to demand quality roads and honest management from the authorities.
