Shillong: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) is fighting back. They claim the Meghalaya government broke the law with its proposed Scheme 2026. President Boswell S Pala fired off a letter to Education Commissioner Vijay Kumar Mantri this Wednesday. The teachers feel ignored. They accused the state of sidelining them during pension and provident fund decisions.
Pala claims the state illegally expanded the Board of Trustees to 20 members on November 4, 2025. This move apparently violates the Meghalaya Provident Fund Act of 1969. That board approved the new scheme on March 16. The teachers were not even invited until the meeting ended. By April 27, 2026, the government removed all deficit teachers and employees from the board entirely.
The association demands transparency. They want a meeting with officials, but they have specific conditions. Pala insisted, "To ensure transparency, Pala insisted that the meeting be video-recorded and the unedited footage shared immediately with the associations."
The teachers raised 14 specific questions about the plan. They want to know why the government ignored the Governor’s May 29, 2023 orders regarding the Employees’ Centralised Provident Fund. The KJDSTA also flagged missed court deadlines from December 15, 2025. They want the government to scrap the current push for Scheme 2026. The association maintains that the shift of funds in 2024 was not an endorsement of this new proposal.
