Kohima: Jo Foundation Inclusive School staged a production of The Sound of Music on August 1 at the RCEMPA in Kohima. Rev Dr Kedo Peseyie, pastor of City Church Kohima, opened the evening with a blessing. Co-founder Dr Asunu Thong then shared the history of the school. She spoke about her grandmother, who found deep meaning in the film despite language barriers. She noted, "She taught us something profound - that the language of love, kindness, courage, and music transcends words."
The school started in 2010 with eight students. This group included two children with special needs. The founders named the institution after Tejopi, their eldest son who lives with severe non-verbal autism. The school hit a major milestone in 2022 when its first class finished their Class 10 exams. Dr Thong believes in these students. She stated that children exceed expectations when given proper support and opportunity.
This performance served as a fundraiser. Proceeds will pay for a permanent campus that includes therapy spaces and accessible classrooms. Some money will also go to help communities in Mon. The school chose this specific musical to highlight themes of compassion and hope. Dr Thong urged the crowd to recognize the broader mission behind the show, which seeks to build a future where every child belongs.
