Jiribam Students Debate AFSPA Ahead of Martyrdom Day

Imphal: The Manipuri Students Federation Jiribam District Committee held its first district-level essay competition this Sunday. The event drew 120 students from Classes VIII to XII. They represent schools across the Jiribam district.

Students focused on the theme, "A Voice Against AFSPA." The contest serves as a lead-up to the August 16 Martyrdom Day for Pebam Chitaranjan Mangang. He died by self-immolation to protest the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in Manipur.

MSF Jiribam District Committee president Thokchom Samananda Singh organized the event. He wants students to grasp the historical weight of the law. Singh noted the initiative aims to help participants "articulate their perspectives on AFSPA through thoughtful and constructive writing."
