Itanagar: Indian Army personnel successfully neutralized an unexploded mortar shell in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. Officials believe the explosive dates back to the 1962 India-China war, as remnants from that conflict are occasionally discovered in the region's border areas.

The shell was initially discovered on Thursday afternoon in the Lebrang area of Tawang township. Local police alerted civil administration and military units, which secured the site to protect the public. Following the discovery, the 190 Mountain Brigade coordinated with police to oversee the disposal process.

Army explosive disposal experts transported the device to a remote location in Methang to carry out a controlled detonation. The operation concluded without any injuries or property damage. Tawang Superintendent of Police Tasi Darang praised the efficiency of the response, noting the "professionalism shown by the Army unit involved."

Authorities have issued a warning to local residents regarding the ongoing risks associated with aging ammunition. Officials advised citizens to avoid touching any suspicious objects and to contact the authorities immediately if they encounter potential explosives.
