Arunachal Governor Honours Itanagar Mayor for Urban Upgrades

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) handed the Land of the Rising Sun Medallion to Itanagar Mayor Likha Nari Tadar on August 3. The ceremony took place at Lok Bhavan. Itanagar needs better streets. The award recognizes Tadar for her work on sanitation, infrastructure, and civic services.

Parnaik pushed for a Zero Litter Itanagar Mission. This plan includes CCTV surveillance, spot fines, and citizen reporting to clean up the city. He wants total waste segregation at the source. Households, markets, and hotels must separate wet, dry, and hazardous trash. He also demanded an end to single-use plastics. Use bamboo or cane instead.

The Governor has big plans. He wants clean tourism corridors running from Hollongi Airport to major sights. Improvements include better lighting, signs, and public toilets. He believes in teamwork. "A clean and well-managed city reflects the collective responsibility of citizens and civic authorities," Parnaik said. He wants community involvement through school brigades and volunteer groups.

Mayor Tadar told the Governor about current IMC projects to fix city amenities. She promised to keep working toward a liveable capital. Parnaik hopes these steps push Itanagar to be the cleanest city in the Northeast. He linked these efforts to the broader Viksit Arunachal and Viksit Bharat 2047 goals.
