Shillong: IIM Jammu and the Ladakh administration inked a memorandum of understanding on Friday to launch a satellite campus in Leh. Ladakh Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena oversaw the deal. The school will offer a four-year BBA Honours programme. It aims to boost management education access for local students. Initial intake sits at 60 seats.
Competition is fierce. More than 600 candidates applied for those 60 spots. Officials confirm the programme starts in October. Construction crews moved fast. They finished the campus infrastructure within two months of finalizing the plan.
Ladakh already hosts several higher education hubs. The University of Ladakh, founded in 2019, operates across Leh and Kargil. Sindhu Central University handles research, while the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies in Choglamsar focuses on philosophy and Himalayan arts. Other regional schools include Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Government Degree College Kargil, and facilities in Nubra, Khaltse, Drass, Sankoo, and Zanskar. "The MoU to expand access to quality management education for students in the Union Territory was signed in the presence of Ladakh Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena," officials stated. Eligible students from Ladakh with Scheduled Tribe status also continue to secure placements in institutions nationwide.
