Kohima: Local farmers in Hazadisa village recently gathered for an intensive training session focused on science-based nutrient management and natural farming techniques. The event was a collaborative effort between ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dimapur, the Agricultural Technology Management Agency of Dhansiripar block, and the District Agriculture Office of Chumoukedima.

The program aimed to educate attendees on how to improve soil health and boost crop productivity through eco-friendly practices. Dr. Bendangla Imsong, a plant breeding expert from KVK Dimapur, warned participants that applying fertilizers in excessive or imbalanced amounts can harm long-term soil fertility and ultimately decrease yields. She stressed that a balanced approach is essential for reducing costs and maintaining sustainable production levels.

E. Lireni Kikon, an expert in plant protection, introduced attendees to the advantages of integrated nutrient management. She advocated for the use of green manure crops, which help increase organic matter in the soil and improve the availability of nutrients. By adopting these methods, farmers can lower their reliance on chemical fertilizers.

Approximately 30 farmers took part in the training, engaging directly with experts to gain practical knowledge for their fields. The initiative serves as part of a broader nationwide campaign to promote smarter resource management in the agricultural sector.
