Guwahati: Bokakhat Range Forest rangers nabbed Rahul Karmakar at Latabari for trafficking a Tokay Gecko. The Kohora resident was caught red-handed during a sting targeting local wildlife syndicates. He possessed one live specimen.
The Tokay Gecko holds protected status under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Authorities now work to track the creature's origin and pinpoint other suspects. As officials stated, "The forest department has initiated further investigation to trace the source of the animal and identify other persons who may be involved in the alleged illegal wildlife trade."
This recovery hits a major nerve in the region. Illegal trading operations remain a primary target for the Kaziranga forest team. Investigations are currently ongoing.
