Kohima: A fire ripped through Room No. 2 at Nagaland House on Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Road Monday morning. Staff suspect an electrical short in an air-conditioning unit sparked the blaze. The flames stayed contained to that single room.

Alert employees grabbed on-site extinguishers the second they smelled smoke. When the front path became blocked, workers scrambled onto the roof to douse the fire through back windows. Delhi Fire Service crews arrived shortly after to finish the job and secure the site.

Joint Resident Commissioner Sharon Longchari managed the immediate response. State officers are now checking the building for structural damage. Nobody got hurt during the scramble. Officials noted that the building, seen as a "home away from home" for local students and patients, might now be replaced sooner than planned.

Nagaland House has stood in Lutyens Delhi since 1973. Investigators are still looking into the exact cause of the accident. Further details will come once the site assessment wraps up.
