Experts Train Dimapur Farmers on Advanced Sericulture Techniques

Kohima: Nagaland officials recently held two training sessions to boost sericulture productivity under the Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan 2.0 campaign. Experts focused on modernizing Eri, Muga, and Mulberry silkworm rearing methods to help local farmers increase yields.

On August 18, Silouphe village hosted an awareness program in Medziphema, Chümoukedima. Dr. Anil Kumar ST of the P3 Unit Narayanpur joined Sericulture Supervisor Pete to teach attendees about scientific host plant management. They broke down nursery establishment, planting methods, spacing, weeding, and nutrient control for host plants. The team emphasized that proper maintenance remains the backbone of sustainable production. "The session focused on the importance of proper host plant cultivation and management for successful Eri and Muga silkworm rearing."

A separate demonstration took place at Aoyimkum village in Dimapur. Dr. Anitharani KV and Senior Technical Assistant Mhayamo Murry from the REC Dimapur worked alongside Oyimpong from the Department of Sericulture. The 38 participants learned to disinfect rearing houses and use bed disinfectants to stop viral outbreaks. Instructors also walked farmers through soil sampling to assess nutrient levels for better leaf growth. The experts concluded with a practical display of scientific mounting technologies meant to improve final cocoon quality.
