Kohima: The Central Silk Board Research Extension Centre in Dimapur joined forces with the Nagaland Department of Sericulture to host two outreach events. They hit Sangtamtila and Nagarjan villages to push the Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan-2.0 initiative. Experts wanted to upgrade local silkworm rearing through hard science.
Scientist-B Dr. Anitharani K V led the charge alongside ASO Mejamongla and STA Mhayamo Murry. The team targeted better yields and fewer losses for the growers. They gave farmers real, field-ready skills.
Sangtamtila hosted a gritty, hands-on demonstration. Workers covered soil sampling and how to grow host plants properly. They showed farmers exactly how to select and apply disinfectants inside rearing houses. The crew zeroed in on bed preparation and mounting mature worms. "Special emphasis was placed on the correct mounting of mature silkworms, a critical stage in determining cocoon quality and yield."
Nagarjan’s session brought new blood into the industry. The team walked beginners through the basics of running a silk farm. They focused on keeping diseases out of the house. Officials told the crowd that using scientific methods early on leads to better cash flow and steady living. These sessions are part of a larger push to boost regional cocoon output.
