Eastern Naga Students Demand Answers on Abandoned Noklak Road Projects

Kohima: The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation is backing the Khiamniungan Students’ Union in a standoff with the Nagaland government. They want answers regarding the total abandonment of major road construction in Noklak District. The projects, including the Chendang Saddle-Noklak-Pangsha Road (Phase-II) and the Noklak-Thonoknyu Road via Sanglao, are stalled. State officials reportedly returned project funds after citing land compensation disputes.

These roads serve as vital lifelines for the region. Abandoning them kills economic growth and blocks access to essential services. The federation previously asked the Department of Public Works for a transparent report on the matter. The department stayed silent. The federation said the lack of response is "not only unacceptable but also deeply disrespectful to the legitimate concerns of the affected communities."

This dispute reached the floor of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on October 26. The federation insists this is no mere formality. They demand the State Government and the Department of Public Works provide a verifiable account of where the money went and why it was returned. They want a clear plan to finish the work. The federation warned of democratic protests if the government continues to ignore the public. They expect accountability, not more delays.
