Kohima: The Khiamniungan Students’ Union is demanding an immediate freeze on final and substantial payments to contractors working on road projects in Noklak district. Union leaders issued the ultimatum on September 21 following the 9th Nagaland Legislative Assembly session. The KSU wants a full stop on the withdrawal of all machinery, equipment, and vehicles from these sites until officials properly verify every detail. They fear that moving gear will hide evidence of poor work. The union demands that no assets leave project sites without prior notice and a rock-solid justification.
Construction oversight must be rigorous. The KSU insists that authorities confirm actual physical progress, specific material quality, and resource use on the ground. They are rejecting any certification based solely on paperwork. They want real, onsite inspections. The union stated, "Measurements, completion records, bills, and other relevant documentation must accurately reflect the actual work executed on the ground." They are warning that premature payments or site evacuations threaten transparency.
KSU leadership is pushing the Public Works Department for total accountability. They demand that officials fix responsibility where they find negligence or broken rules. The union plans to track these projects closely. If the government fails to act, they will chase the matter through all necessary legal and administrative channels. They vow to protect public funds from waste or fraud while monitoring the ongoing execution of every road contract in the district.
