Shillong: East Khasi Hills administrators hit the organizers of a Mawryngkneng fishing competition with show-cause notices on Tuesday. They also ordered local police to file FIRs against the group. The event triggered gridlock and broad public nuisance, ignoring strict conditions set for the gathering.
Police are now building cases for public nuisance and violations of the Motor Vehicles Act. Authorities plan to create a fresh Standard Operating Procedure to manage future events. Organizers will soon face tighter rules and must provide detailed event plans long before seeking permission.
The Deputy Commissioner stated, "The administration plans to introduce joint inspections for such events." This new protocol pulls the police, fisheries department, Rangbah Shnong, and civil administration into the oversight process. Current inspections, handled mostly by the BDO office, are ending. The administration is also looking at ways to fine private organizers who let their events turn into a public headache.
