Teenager critically injured in Shillong scooter collision

Shillong: A 17-year-old boy remains in critical condition today. He suffered severe injuries Saturday night after his scooter slammed into a motorcycle in Shillong. The crash happened at 10:40 pm near Barik.

Bishar Passah, a 40-year-old from Laban, rode his Royal Enfield Thunderbird, registered ML-10H-4237, from Barik toward Malki. He hit an oncoming Yamaha Ray scooter, registered ML-05M-1659, carrying three people. The impact left the teen driver fighting for his life. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed the victim was rushed to Shillong Civil Hospital by a 108 ambulance before being moved to NEIGRIHMS for specialized care.

The scooter carried two other passengers. Medatskhem Sohtun, 20, and a 15-year-old companion walked away with minor scrapes. They received first aid and left the hospital quickly. Passah also went to Woodland Hospital for a checkup. He was released following outpatient treatment.

Police impounded both bikes. Officers moved the wreckage to the Laitumkhrah Traffic Branch. Authorities have started formal legal action, but officials remain tight-lipped on specific charges. "The juvenile rider was referred to NEIGRIHMS for further treatment," Syiem stated regarding the victim's status.
