Kohima: Former Chief Minister Dr. S.C. Jamir called on Ao pensioners to clean up Nagaland. He wants them to use their wisdom to fight corruption, tribalism, and insurgency. He spoke at the fourth general meeting of the Kohima Ao Pensioner Telungjem. The event took place Friday at the KABA Jubilee Memorial Centre.
Jamir, who served as governor of Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Odisha, demanded change. He pushed for better administration, development, and electoral practices. He urged retirees to share their expertise through churches and social platforms. The state currently suffers from a poor reputation. "Nagas had been protected by God for decades," he stated during his address.
The veteran leader highlighted the role of the Ao people as pioneers in politics, education, and Christianity. He noted the American Baptist Mission sparked early development in the region. He also recalled the work of Dr. Imkongliba, who unified the Naga political movement through the Naga People’s Convention after World War II.
Retired IAS officer E.T. Sunep also spoke to the group. He told the members to act as ambassadors of Christ and maintain high moral character. The union president, Dr. L. Temsu Jamir, gave the welcome address. Vice President L. Chubalepzuk held a minute of silence for deceased members. Secretary N. Wati Atsongchanger closed the meeting with a vote of thanks.
