Imphal: Doctors at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) warned today that poor administration is pushing the facility to the brink. Representatives from the Teachers Association, JNIMS (TA-JNIMS), addressed the press at the Manipur Press Club to air their grievances. They demanded immediate professional leadership, institutional autonomy, and faster decision-making to protect medical education and patient services.
Leadership remains in total flux. The previous director finished their tenure on April 30, 2026. An official from general administration took over, but that role expired on August 4. There is still no replacement. "Healthcare institutions require specialised professional leadership, institutional autonomy and timely administrative decision-making to ensure patient care and medical education," the association stated.
The rot runs deep. Employees face salary delays and are still waiting for regularisation. Doctors report a critical lack of essential medicines and basic consumables. To make matters worse, the tenure for Junior Resident Doctors ended on August 6. The failure to recruit replacements threatens to break ward and emergency operations. The association insists on dedicated administrative posts and a seat at the table when the state crafts policies affecting their hospital.
