Kohima: The Joint Colony Forum is fighting back. They want the Deputy Commissioner to stop a rogue group from setting up shop in Ward 20. Six colony councils and local leaders represent this group. They claim individuals are trying to form a Business Owners Forum, Nagarjan without any official approval.
United Colony, Imkonglenden Colony, Ura Villa Colony, Circuit House Colony, S.M. Colony, and Vilhume Colony make up the ward. The trouble started with an unauthorized push for this new body. The United Colony Council met with the organizers on August 26, 2026. They shut the idea down immediately. A later meeting on August 30 saw shop owners and landlords reject the proposal entirely.
The council issued a public warning on September 9. The rogue group fired back on September 10, calling the council's opposition wrong. Ward 20 Councillor Lanuchuba Imchen stepped in to lead the charge. He chaired meetings at Hotel Saramati on September 11 and September 13. The attendees passed a total ban on the unapproved outfit.
The forum fears the rogue body will stir up trouble. They say it creates friction between traders and residents. An existing system involving the police and local councils already handles business matters. In their petition, they made their stance clear: "unauthorised bodies could create parallel authorities, unnecessary administrative interference, friction and divisions among residents, traders and landlords." The forum now waits for the administration to step in and enforce the ban.
