Kohima: The United Colony Council of Ward-20 in Dimapur shut the door on trade unions. Shopkeepers and business operators now face a total ban on joining any business association, committee, or trade-related group within the jurisdiction of the ward.
This policy solidified during an emergency meeting held on August 31. The council, local landlords, and business operators sat down and reached a unanimous decision. This move continues existing mandates from earlier council directives and previous General Body votes.
The council argues that too many groups are popping up. They pointed to the, "mushrooming of unions and associations," across Nagaland as a primary driver for the crackdown. They claim these entities have attracted intense heat from legislative bodies, the public, and the commercial sector.
Officials insist the restriction protects the broader public and commercial interests. The ban stays in place indefinitely. It holds until future revisions or a formal ratification occurs during a subsequent General Body meeting of the United Colony Council. The council expects full compliance from every trader, landlord, and resident in the area.
