Kohima: Officials in Dimapur have locked down Thahekhu Block-7. African Swine Fever hit the local pig population, forcing an immediate emergency response. Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Tinojongshi Chang confirmed the outbreak after laboratory tests came back positive on Thursday.

The virus kills pigs fast. It spreads through direct contact or tainted feed. To stop the bleed, the district administration declared the area an infected zone. They are following federal guidelines to keep the contagion from jumping to other farms. The order explicitly bans moving pigs, piglets, pork products, or farming equipment in or out of the danger zone.

The Chief Veterinary Officer now leads the cleanup. Teams will collect samples, disinfect contaminated sites, and cull animals where needed. The police have orders to block all traffic into the area. DC Chang warned stakeholders to follow the rules, saying: "It has urged all concerned to extend full cooperation to contain and prevent the further spread of the disease in the district."

Farmers and traders must obey these protocols. The administration wants full compliance to stop the outbreak before it hits the rest of the region.
