Kohima: Dimapur officials locked down Thahekhu Block-7 today. Laboratory tests confirmed cases of African Swine Fever in the area. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang signed the order following a report from the Chief Veterinary Officer.
This virus hits pigs hard. It spreads fast. The administration now classifies the neighborhood as an infected zone to stop the contagion. Authorities are following national guidelines to manage the outbreak.
New rules stop the movement of pigs, piglets, and pork products in or out of the site. This also covers feed and contaminated equipment. The Chief Veterinary Officer will lead the clean-up. Teams will disinfect farms and cull animals where the law demands. "The Chief Veterinary Officer has been directed to carry out surveillance, sample collection, disinfection, culling where necessary, and other disease-control measures as prescribed under the relevant protocols."
Police will patrol the perimeter. Officers must ensure total compliance with the new restrictions. Farmers and traders need to step up. The administration expects full cooperation from stakeholders to kill the virus before it moves further into the district.
