Congress Accuses Arunachal Pradesh Government of Obstructing CBI Probe

Itanagar: The Congress party has accused the BJP-led government in Arunachal Pradesh of obstructing a court-monitored investigation into corruption allegations. General secretary Jairam Ramesh stated on June 3 that the state administration is ignoring Supreme Court directives by maintaining control over files linked to a CBI probe regarding public works contracts.

The investigation centers on claims that contracts worth 1,270 crore rupees were awarded to firms connected to Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his family between 2015 and 2025. According to Ramesh, a CBI report submitted to the Supreme Court in April 2026 detailed these allegations, prompting the court to order an independent inquiry to ensure transparency.

Ramesh criticized the leadership for keeping the Chief Minister in office while the investigation proceeds. He argued that the state government is attempting to influence the probe by withholding critical records from investigators. The Congress leader described the situation as a serious breach of judicial orders and urged for a fully independent process to examine potential conflicts of interest at the highest levels of the state administration.

Neither the BJP nor the Arunachal Pradesh government has provided a formal response to these claims. The CBI investigation into the procurement irregularities remains ongoing.
