Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein met with Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi on Tuesday. He demanded the Centre continue funding power infrastructure upgrades across the Northeast. The meeting included power ministers from neighboring states and NERPC chairman Metbah Lyngdoh.
Regional officials pushed for modern systems. They want Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition and Energy Management Systems alongside Emergency Restoration Systems. These tools keep the grid reliable. Mein believes these upgrades are essential for security. "A stronger power network will be the foundation for the Northeast's next phase of growth, connectivity and development," he said.
Mein focused on local needs. He pressed for the 132/33 kV substation at Kimin and associated transmission lines. The current 33 kV feeder causes constant voltage drops. Local power disruptions plague Kimin and surrounding towns. Better lines will fix this.
Arunachal sits on massive untapped hydropower potential. Mein noted the state has a heavy pipeline of new generation projects. He argued that the current grid cannot handle the upcoming output. Efficient power evacuation requires a modern network. This energy shift demands immediate action.
