Agartala: Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar announced a major investment of more than Rs 427 crore to boost urban development in Tripura. The Minister confirmed this funding during a review meeting with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath at the State Guest House.
A significant portion of this initiative focuses on waste management. The Central Government has already provided Rs 100 crore for a project at the DC Nagar dumping station near Agartala, which is nearing completion. Officials also set a June 20 deadline for a survey to finalize the construction of household, community, and market toilets. Furthermore, 11 sewage treatment plants are currently under construction across various municipal bodies and are expected to be operational by December.
To enhance tourism, the government identified four key cities: Agartala, Dharmanagar, Melaghar, and Udaipur. An additional Rs 27 crore has been allocated to improve cleanliness standards in these areas. Tripura has also proposed projects worth Rs 1,200 crore under the Urban Challenge Projects Fund, with the Centre and the state contributing Rs 300 crore each and the remainder sourced from financial institutions.
Regarding power infrastructure, the state is on track to generate 300 megawatts by next year. Addressing financial challenges within the department, the Minister directed officials to crack down on illegal connections. Additionally, the government plans to roll out two lakh rooftop solar connections under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana by March 2027 to meet rising energy demands.
