Agartala: A three-member central delegation arrived at Santirbazar District Hospital on Monday to evaluate the facility for national-level assistance under the National Quality Assurance Standards. The team, including Sunit Srivastava, Renuka Shinde, and Ankita Nath, launched a three-day inspection to review the hospital infrastructure and daily operations.
Hospital staff members have earned recognition for their consistent efforts to provide round-the-clock medical services, sparking hope among residents for enhanced institutional development. Local officials, including South District Sabhadhipati Deepak Datta and MLA Pramod Reang, were present to welcome the team alongside the Chief Medical Officer J.M. Das and other hospital leadership.
The inspection process faced turbulence following reports of misconduct by Dr. Rahul Das of the Rupaichhari Primary Health Centre. Witnesses alleged that Dr. Das obstructed journalists attempting to cover the event and acted inappropriately toward media personnel. Additional accusations have surfaced regarding the potential misappropriation of funds at his home facility, prompting questions about his involvement in the district hospital inspection.
Despite the disruption, the evaluation continued as scheduled. The final results of this assessment are expected to significantly influence the future of healthcare resources and infrastructure improvements at the South Tripura facility.
