Guwahati: Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal toured the Bongaigaon Medical College and Hospital on August 14. He inspected the site and met with staff. The institution aims to become a top-tier center for medical technology. It will open its doors to 100 students this academic year. The hospital itself will start public operations soon.
Singhal also updated the public on ongoing flood relief in Upper Assam. Officials have set up healthcare services at every relief camp in the region. The minister praised the work of ASHA workers, nurses, and doctors. He noted that government hospitals maintain ample stocks of essential drugs.
Primary health centers currently hold medicine for basic issues like fever and cough. Patients needing bypass surgery or other complex care will move to medical colleges. During the meeting, Singhal issued a directive regarding prescriptions. He urged medical professionals to keep care costs low. "The minister also urged doctors to prescribe only generic medicines to patients to make treatment more affordable for the general public."
