Boleng Chosen to Host 2026 Asian Rafting Championships

Itanagar: Boleng is ready. The Siang district town will host the 2026 Asian Rafting Championships from October 5 to 9. Top athletes from across the continent will compete on the Simang River, a tributary of the Siang River located in the Siang Valley.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Sports Minister Ojing Tasing are leading the push. They met with Asian Rafting Council President Shaukat Sikand and Arunachal Pradesh Water Sports Association President Nino Dai to review progress. The state government views this event as a way to grow the local economy and build its status as a top adventure tourism destination.

Khandu shared his outlook on social media regarding the event's impact. He noted it is an, "An exciting opportunity to put Arunachal Pradesh's spectacular rivers, adventure-sports potential and hospitality on the global stage."

Ojing Tasing, who also serves as the MLA for Boleng, believes the competition will solidify the region's reputation for white-water sports. Officials expect the event to highlight the area's river networks and natural surroundings to a global audience.
