Itanagar: Tai Tagak of the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a seat in the Rajya Sabha after being elected unopposed as the sole representative for Arunachal Pradesh. His victory was met with a celebratory reception in Itanagar, led by State BJP President Kaling Moyong and numerous party workers who gathered to offer their congratulations.

The 54-year-old veteran joined the BJP in 1995 following his early work as a unit organizer for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Throughout his career, Tagak served as the state general secretary, spokesperson, and state president. During his leadership between 2013 and 2015, the party saw major electoral growth, helping pave the way for the BJP to form its first government in the state in 2016.

Tagak grew up in Peel village in the Kurung Kumey district and originally worked as a child labourer before becoming a social worker and cultural activist. His colleagues have noted that his journey is a testament to his dedication to public service. Reflecting on his career and future role, Kaling Moyong praised his contributions and said, "He would effectively represent the aspirations of Arunachal Pradesh in the Upper House."

Beyond his party duties, Tagak has also served two terms as an adviser to the chief minister. Supporters are now looking toward his tenure in Parliament as a continuation of his commitment to the state's development.
