Guwahati: The Bhogdoi River burst its banks today, sending floodwaters surging into the Borigaon neighborhood of Jorhat, Assam. Water poured over the embankment and swamped Ward No. 19, turning residential streets into rivers. The situation is dire. Several houses are currently underwater, forcing families to abandon their belongings and flee for higher ground.
Residents and district officials are scrambling to save the failing embankment as pressure continues to mount. Local authorities warned that the barrier could give way entirely at any second. Emergency crews are working around the clock to prevent a total collapse. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force, or SDRF, arrived on the scene to lead rescue operations alongside other agencies. They are pulling people out of the rising water and moving them to safer areas as the crisis develops.
The impact is concentrated near the Baligaon and Malow Ali regions. Officials noted that the flood situation has taken a severe turn in Upper Assam. Rescue workers continue their efforts as residents face what many described as a grim situation. Every effort is being made to stop the river from causing further destruction.
