Jorhat Hospital Tense After Clash Leaves Four Injured

Guwahati: Tension gripped Jorhat Medical College and Hospital on Friday, September 18. A confrontation between local youths and medical staff erupted into violence, leaving four people wounded. Assailants reportedly used sharp-edged weapons during the late-night scuffle.

Dr. Dhiraj Pegu and three final-year MBBS students, identified as Abhilesh and Sukumar Das, suffered injuries. Medical staff treated all four at the hospital. While the group remains in stable condition, one victim sustained a serious leg injury.

Angry hostel residents swarmed the hospital grounds after the attack. They demanded immediate police action against the perpetrators. Local police arrived quickly to stabilize the situation. The main suspect surrendered to authorities shortly after the incident.

Local youths claim the fight began after medical students allegedly broke beer bottles in a public area near the hospital. Police are currently investigating the matter. Authorities are working to "establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible for the assault." Officers continue to review evidence as they wait for further developments.
