Guwahati: The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council tabled a Rs 1,678.55 crore budget on Monday, August 3. The financial plan covers the 2026-27 fiscal year for the Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts. Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang presented the total sum of Rs 1,678 crore, 55 lakh and 11 thousand under the State Own Priority Development scheme. The session in Diphu continues until August 4 under Speaker Raju Tisso. Members passed the budget without opposition.
Ronghang defended the fiscal strategy. He told reporters, "No cuts had been made to the Budget." The Council is now pushing the Assam government for higher allocations to fund extra projects. The plan prioritizes infrastructure, education, sports, and local culture.
Separately, the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council delivered its 14th budget on Tuesday, August 4. Executive Member Donpainon Thaosen tabled the Rs 1,232 crore plan for Dima Hasao at the council headquarters. Chairman Mohet Hojai presided over the session. The budget received unanimous support.
The plan earmarks Rs 889 crore under the State-Owned Priority Development component for salaries and development. Another Rs 232 crore covers pending salaries and gratuities for Class I and Class II officers. The council also established a Rs 30 crore MAC Area Development Fund. Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa plans to boost tourism and youth empowerment. He intends to improve the region's revenue through land taxes and forest resources.
