Itanagar: Assam University students ended their sit-in protest Wednesday afternoon. The demonstration started at 9 am outside the university gate. Protesters demanded immediate repairs to the crumbling road connecting Silchar Medical College and Hospital to the campus. This stretch has caused major headaches for faculty, students, and patients for a long time.
Students had already sent multiple memos to the Cachar district administration and regional authorities. They issued a 15-day ultimatum earlier, but officials took no visible action. The group gathered outside the main entrance today to demand a formal commitment from the government. They stayed put for several hours. The wait ended around 1:30 pm when an Additional Deputy Commissioner finally arrived to meet them.
The official provided a signed guarantee to address the road damage. Following this, the students packed up their gear. They stated, "The students said they would continue to monitor the progress of the proposed road repair work and hoped that the administration would take prompt steps to restore the connectivity between Silchar Medical College and Assam University." Future progress on the site remains under their watch.
