Guwahati: The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) is demanding immediate action from the state government. They want the Dearness Allowance hike, which took effect July 1, 2026, paid in full before Diwali. This payment must include all accumulated arrears in a single installment.
SAKP president Kumud Kumar Kataki and secretary general Pranabjyoti Bhuyan signed the formal memorandum. They delivered the document directly to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The group wants the Chief Minister to force the Finance Department to act now. They argue this cash injection will help teachers, officers, pensioners, and other staff manage festive costs.
The central government already approved the July 2026 raise for its own staff. The SAKP expects Assam to mirror that policy. Senior government employee Sailendra Pandey spoke to reporters in Guwahati about the situation. He noted that "constructive engagement between the employees’ body and the state government was important for addressing workforce concerns."
The state government has yet to provide a response or a concrete timeline for the funds. The union maintains that these employees drive all administrative and developmental work across the state. They now wait for the government to finalize the payout.
