Guwahati: Assam kicks off its tech-driven Census 2027 on August 2. The Directorate of Census Operations confirmed the start date during a Saturday press conference at Janata Bhawan. Residents can now log their own details online. Two flood-stricken districts in upper Assam remain on hold for now. The state will add them once conditions improve.
Director of Census Operations Biswajit Pegu laid out the two-phase roadmap. The self-enumeration window stays open from August 2 to August 16. People can use smartphones or the official web portal to file. A follow-up Housing Census runs from August 17 to September 15. Enumerators will visit homes during this second stage to verify housing conditions and assets.
The massive operation spans 35 districts, 166 sub-districts, and 26,236 villages. Fifty-nine Master Trainers are ready to go. The survey uses a 33-question form covering demographics, water sources, kitchen access, and fuel connections like LPG or PNG. The platform supports 16 languages, including Assamese. Help is available via the toll-free number 1855.
Pegu addressed data security concerns directly. He emphasized that the National Data Centre will hold all records securely. Pegu stated, "all information collected during the Census would remain strictly confidential and would not be shared with any individual or agency." The state urged all residents to participate and provide accurate data.
