Guwahati: Assam officials launched the official Census 2027 theme song on August 7 at the Directorate of Census Operations in Amingaon, Kamrup district. The track features the voice of late music legend Zubeen Garg. The event kicked off with a ceremonial lamp lighting to honor Garg.
Pankaj Chakravarty, an ACS officer and Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, wrote the lyrics. He designed the song to emphasize the role of every citizen in nation-building, social progress, and development planning. Officials hope the singer’s recognizable voice will push the public to join the nationwide enumeration exercise.
Biswajit Pegu, the Director of the Directorate of Census Operations, Assam, described the track as a powerful tool for outreach. He expects the song to motivate residents to support the upcoming count. The event drew several key figures including Census Nodal Officer Partha Pegu and the late singer’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg.
Garima Saikia Garg praised the project during the launch. She noted that her husband always felt a deep connection to the community. She said, "Zubeen would have been proud to know that his music was being used to create awareness among the people." The Directorate thanked the family for their support while finalizing the release of the recording.
