Guwahati: Assam officials sacked Dr. Mridu Paban Nath this week. He worked as an associate professor of Anaesthesiology at Diphu Medical College until his termination. The state Medical Education and Research Department pulled the plug on his career for skipping work and breaking service rules.

Nath vanished from his post on May 1, 2024. He took a side gig as the CEO of Hayat Hospital during his absence. This private employment while drawing a government paycheck violated state policy. The department took action after receiving a formal complaint regarding these irregularities.

The axe fell hard. Officials also scrutinized his travel history since 2010. Nath left the country 18 times without the required No Objection Certificate or permission from his superiors. The department stated that "the foreign trips undertaken without the required approvals were also contrary to applicable service regulations." He is officially out of a job.
