Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered a crackdown on unauthorized flood relief fundraising on August 6. Police will now target anyone soliciting money with collection boxes or QR codes on public roads. Sarma issued a direct warning to those exploiting the disaster. "Nobody will be allowed to collect money on public roads in the name of flood relief," he said. Officials urged citizens to donate only through verified channels.

Meanwhile, the Northeast Frontier Railway restored flood-damaged tracks in the Sivasagar district. General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava inspected the repairs, which cover the Selenghat, Amguri, Simaluguri, and Sivasagar Town sections. The line reopened at 4 pm. Sarma credited Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the quick restoration.

The railway faces a humanitarian crisis. Officials found displaced families, children, and livestock sheltering on tracks. Trains will run on diesel power to prevent electrocution from overhead lines. This restriction remains in place until floodwaters recede and families vacate the tracks.

Multiple routes are affected. Local services including the Guwahati-Dibrugarh Nagaland Express, Guwahati-Ledo Intercity, Rangiya-Ledo Intercity, Lumding-Tinsukia DEMU, and the Tinsukia-Jorhat Town Passenger will divert through Moranhat. Long-distance trains remain on a detour via North Lakhimpur, Rangapara North, and Rangiya. Special trains continue to plug connectivity gaps for Upper Assam.
