Assam Congress Plans State-Wide Tributes for Zubeen Garg

Shillong: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee will hold state-wide memorial services for Zubeen Garg on September 19. This date marks the first death anniversary of the legendary Assamese artiste. APCC president and Lok Sabha Deputy Leader of the Opposition Gaurav Gogoi ordered the tribute, titled Zubeen Garg Smriti Sandhya.

District Congress Committees must organize these events with solemnity. Officials have ordered every district to place a large portrait of the singer in a visible area. Members will light lamps and lead peaceful processions carrying his image through the streets. It is a show of respect for his legacy. The party wants the events to reflect his massive influence on local culture.

A formal statement released by the Assam PCC on Thursday outlined the expectations for these events. The party leadership expects a high level of decorum during the observances. "The entire programme has been specifically directed to be conducted with utmost sincerity, solemnity and cultural dignity, as a tribute to Zubeen Garg’s unparalleled contribution to Assam’s cultural landscape," the statement noted.
