Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge kicked off the Energy for Health initiative on Wednesday, September 23. The project brings solar power to 393 healthcare centers throughout the state. It relies on a partnership with the SELCO Foundation to stabilize electricity in remote, resource-strapped locations. The launch took place at the Primary Health Centre Itafort in Itanagar. Health Commissioner Pawan Kumar Saini and Health Secretary Vivek H.P. attended the event.
Officials also launched the Saura e-Mitra App to manage incident reports digitally. A new web-based system for mapping health facilities and human resources across the state went live as well. SELCO Foundation CEO Dr. Harish Hande explained the mission. He noted the program focuses on "strengthening energy access for healthcare facilities."
Installations include solar photovoltaic systems ranging from 3 kWp to 15 kWp. Each site receives dedicated battery backups. The foundation aims to reach 25,000 public health facilities across 12 states by the end of 2026. This massive push impacts 170 million people and supports 160,000 frontline workers. Partners include the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the IKEA Foundation.
