Kohima: District officials in Peren met September 18 at the DC Conference Hall to address local poverty. The workshop, dubbed Our Land Our Produce, sought to connect sustainable energy with better living standards. It was a joint effort between the District Administration and the SELCO Foundation.
Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru opened the floor with a keynote address. He pushed attendees to identify specific livelihood hurdles and build a long-term vision for the region. He noted that SELCO provides vital green solutions to rural communities across India. Officials must now shoulder a greater responsibility to improve the district.
SELCO representatives Rosie and Imran led the technical sessions. They focused on bridging gaps in value chains, post-harvest losses, and limited market access. The foundation currently powers 325 health centers with solar energy nationwide. Sixteen of those facilities are located within Peren district. Rosie said, "SELCO Foundation works towards alleviating poverty by improving a sustainable energy solution for underserved Communities."
The team argued that energy acts as a primary tool for fixing grassroots problems. Their strategy involves creating better training, financing, and policy support. By building these ecosystems, they aim to boost healthcare and economic stability for the most vulnerable residents.
