Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government has resumed monthly wage payments for 4,745 casual, contingency, and work-charged employees. The move serves as an interim relief measure while the state continues to review findings from an official inquiry into unauthorized staffing levels.

Led by the Principal Secretary of the Public Works Department, the inquiry revealed that 4,427 casual workers and 318 work-charged staff were hired without proper approval or corresponding sanctioned posts. The government imposed a wage freeze on these individuals on February 24 to address the discrepancies. Officials stated that the decision to resume payments was made on compassionate grounds to provide relief to the affected workforce until a final policy decision is reached.

To prevent future irregular hiring, the state is implementing new safeguards recommended by the Personnel Information Organisation. These measures include strict post allocation at the division level and tighter controls on personnel transfers between zones and circles. Future salary disbursements will require formal approval, as the notification clarified that district treasuries will release funds only after receiving a joint, signed notification specifying the approved distribution of posts. This verification must carry the signatures of both the respective head of department and the head of office.
